USING OUR SITE
HOW TO CREATE AND SEND A GREETING
It's easy! Browse through the greetings on our site and pick the one you like. Once you have found the greeting you would like to send, and then want to purchase a CD and send it along with your greeting, click the BUY CD tab at the bottom of the greeting. Follow through our partner's site to make the purchase. Then, come back. Come back! You've still gotta send the greeting! Fill out the information area on the greeting page completely, including subject line. You can click Preview greeting at the bottom of the page to preview your greeting and message prior to sending it. Click Send to send your greeting. The "thank you" page indicates that your greeting was sent successfully. That's it, you're done! It's free and easy. And both of those words are a good thing.

LENGTH OF PERSONAL MESSAGES
There is no limit to the length of your personal message. Blab away!

HOW DO I KNOW MY GREETING WAS DELIVERED?
Our greetings are normally delivered within 24 hours (most within a few hours). You'll receive a confirmation email as soon as your greeting has been picked up. This confirmation email will include copy of the greeting you've sent.

CAN I SEND THE SAME GREETING TO MORE THAN ONE PERSON AT A TIME?
Of course. That's assuming that you know more than one person. After selecting your greeting, just add one personal message for all of your recipients to read. Then, enter the email address of each person to whom you'll be sending the greeting, using commas to separate the email addresses.

COOKIES
A cookie is a small, non-fattening, non-executable text file that is sent to your computer by our network. Because they are non-executable, they are perfectly safe for your computer. Cookies are very commonly used on the Internet to help websites serve you better. For more information on cookies, please visit cookiecentral.com, or your local Mrs. Fields.

VGreets.com uses temporary cookies for two reasons: a) to store temporary information so you don't have to repeatedly type in your name and address, and b) to collect anonymous site statistics. Temporary cookies disappear from your computer when you close your Web Browser. There is no demographic information or anything else inside our temporary cookies.

SECURITY
VGreets.com uses a technology called Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), which is the industry standard for secure commerce transactions. SSL encrypts all of your personal information, including your name, address, and credit-card number, so that the information cannot be read as it travels over the Internet. Actually, it's safer to transmit your credit-card information over the Internet than it is to use your credit card around town, so you can be assured that all online transactions involving credit cards or personal information are secure.

VIRUSES
There is no way that you can get a computer virus from sending or receiving a VGreets.com electronic card. Our greetings are simply web pages that you view with your Internet Browser. The email notifications we send you are only text messages with a hypertext link to your greeting and do not contain any attached files.

 TROUBLESHOOTING
(before you throw your computer against the wall...)
Viewing or picking up greetings...

WHY DO I HAVE PROBLEMS PICKING UP OR VIEWING THE GREETINGS I RECEIVE?
Mail servers that only use text, such as Erols, Juno, Airmail, and Dataflow, are incompatible with our greetings. If your recipient is using WebTV, he or she will only be able to download our electronic postcards. Also, many private-institution email accounts, like those at businesses and colleges, use "attachment blocks" to ensure that no viruses get downloaded into their computer systems. These attachment blocks can also keep our greetings from being sent, as can Mail Controls that have been set to block "junk" email.

Issues with sound...

WHY AM I NOT HEARING SOUND ON MY GREETING?
VGreets.com uses MIDI music on our greetings. In order to hear MIDI music, you must have speakers (that are turned on, with the volume turned up) and a MIDI music plugin that works together with your web browser (we recommend using the most recent version of your web browser, for example Netscape 4.6 or Internet Explorer 5.0). You can download a MIDI plugin at one of the following sites for FREE:
Netscape and Internet Explorer users: Crescendo by LiveUpdate, at liveupdate.com.
AOL and Internet Explorer users: Windows Media Player, at microsoft.com. Make sure you click the FREE version of the plugin to download it. (There are other versions that you can pay for, but all you need to hear music on our site is the FREE version.) You will then need to install the plugin by double-clicking on the file that you downloaded. Make sure you install it in the same browser that you use to view our greetings (this should be your "default browser"). If you have downloaded and installed the plugin correctly you will hear sound on our greetings. Please note that if you upgrade your browser you will need to reinstall your MIDI plugin software.
*AOL users: AOL does automatic upgrades for many of its users. Any time you upgrade your browser, or make any major changes to your computer such as upgrading to AOL 7.0, you may need to reinstall your MIDI plugin software. When downloading plugins, choose "Save to Disk" rather than running the program from its current location. We recommend saving it to your desktop to make it easier to find the installation file.

I COULD HEAR MUSIC YESTERDAY, WHY CAN'T I HEAR IT TODAY?
Any time you upgrade your browser, or make any major changes to your computer, you may need to reinstall your MIDI plugin software.
AOL users: AOL does automatic upgrades for many of its users. Any time you upgrade your browser, or make any major changes to your computer such as upgrading to AOL 7.0, you may need to reinstall your MIDI plugin software. If you have recently lost your sound on due to an upgrade with AOL, you can try installing Windows Media Player. You can find information on how to download this free MIDI plugin at microsoft.com. After you have downloaded this plugin, install it by double-clicking on the downloaded file that you saved to your desktop.
Other Users: Any time you make any major changes to your computer, such as upgrading your browser or installing other plugins, you may need to reinstall your MIDI music plugin. A popular MIDI music plugin that works well for most users is called Crescendo and can be downloaded for FREE at liveupdate.com. Make sure you choose the FREE download of Crescendo 4.0. We recommend saving the file to your desktop for easier locating. After you have downloaded this plugin, install it by double-clicking on the downloaded file that you saved to your desktop. After installation is complete go to www.liveupdate.com to test that the installation was successful. If the plugin is correctly installed, the Crescendo program will start and you will hear MIDI sound playing. If Crescendo does not start, help is available at liveupdate.com. If installing Crescendo does not fix the problem, you can try downloading and installing Windows Media Player at microsoft.com.

HOW CAN I STOP THE MUSIC OF A GREETING FROM PLAYING CONTINUOUSLY?

Crescendo users can change the settings in the Crescendo Control Panel. In the top left hand corner of the Crescendo Control Panel, choose OPTIONS. Under OPTIONS make sure that ALLOW LOOPING is NOT checked. This will prevent Crescendo from playing the music continuously. You can also close the window the greeting is playing in.

Animation problems...

HOW DO I GET THE ANIMATION TO WORK?
Many of our new greetings use an enhanced animation called Flash. You and your recipient will need to have a Flash plugin installed in order to view the greeting in its enhanced version. You can download the Flash plugin for FREE at macromedia.com.
Windows users: Flash requires Windows 3.1 or 3.11, Windows 95, 98, or NT 3.51 and later.
Mac users: Flash Player requires a 68K Macintosh running System 7.1.2 or later, or a Power Macintosh running System 7.5.1 or later.
To find out more about Flash, click here.

WHY IS THE ANIMATION SLOW OR CHOPPY?
Slow modem speeds or slow computer processors can cause delays or slow animation on our greetings. We recommend using a modem speed of at least 56k to connect to the web, and a computer processor speed of at least 133 MHz. We also recommend closing all other applications on your computer (except your web browser) while you are viewing our greetings. If you still experience difficulty, you may want to install more memory on your computer.
Windows users: We recommend at least 32 MB of RAM.
Mac users: You can add Virtual Memory to your system by going to "Control Panel" and selecting "Memory". Select "Virtual Memory" ON and set it to at least 32 MB.
